According to the Shaman Shaman, zombies are still rather humanistic, and each group of zombies has a leader to guide their hunts. So, if we magically decapitate that one leader, the horde of zombies will not recover from the shock and loss of morale for a night; or perhaps they're just spending the remainder of the day electing a new leader.
